Green design for over 3,000 years!
Hand-woven rugs have been “green” long before the concept was even thought of. Our rugs are made entirely by hand with virtually no machinery. Both the wool of the pile and the cotton of the foundation are completely renewable and readily available. The fibers are combed by hand and spun by hand using a foot pedal for power. All natural vegetal dyes are often used and the rugs are woven and finished all by hand.
The finest material is also the most environmentally-friendly
Natural wool is completely renewable, and still the most durable, easiest to maintain, softest, and most colorful carpet fiber. In fact, wool is not only the finest rug-making material available, but also the most green.
Environmental benefits of hand-made wool carpets:
- Absorbs toxins from the air
- Non-flammable
- Biodegradable, and renewable resource
- Natural insulator
- Hand spun yarns retain natural protective lanolin properties
- Dust mite resistant
- Water resistant, so it doesn’t require scotch guard
- Wool is sourced from sheep that graze freely with a a diet that is 100% natural no artificial supplements are used.
The pinnacle of recyclability
Hand-woven rugs also provide the ultimate recycling opportunity; they last for decades and therefore can be passed on for generations. A refreshing idea in today’s overly-disposeable world.
